Black Capital

Baruti looks into the reasons why it is so pivotal to the flow of communication among them and, especially, between them and others. He examines why it makes sense to view lying as a personal and social norm in a cultural context where morality (our sense of right and wrong) is political. In western society, lying is considered an exercise of power and a valid means of controlling others by confusing them and, therefore, causing them to become victimized by a “truth” consciously manufactured by the liar. Using the movie The Mummy as a prime example, we are shown how far Europeans will take lies in order to trick others into believing lies about themselves.
